Oil Painting and I go way back. In college I learned a technique that blends oil paints so carefully it's frequently mistaken for airbrush. I love the soft blending and the way colors merge into one another. (In fact, when I was a little girl, I remember watching the Easter egg dyes being poured down our white porcelain sink, merging together, after we dyed our eggs, and that's when I knew I'd want to paint when I grew up!) So I absolutely love playing with paint, and the nice thing about Oil is that it dries so slowly you can get it just the way you want it. I've used an "ala primera" method that just uses one layer of paint on the canvas, thus assuring clarity of color. I enjoy enlarging images to fill and overflow the canvas borders so one cannot deny the unmistakable presence of nature, much as Georgia O'Keefe did with watercolor.
One of the great things about Art and artists is the never-ending growth and learning that takes place. So, for the past several years I have also been painting in a new, variety of ways. Using glazes, textures, and more 'painterly' effects has been a lot of fun to incorporate into my work. Experimenting and pushing myself in new directions keeps Art, like Life, constantly expanding and Joyful!
